State-of-the-Art Dental Implant Placement

Dental implants have revolutionized dentistry in the way they restore functionality and stability to patients' smiles after tooth loss. The surgeons at Suburban Oral Surgery and Implant Center specialize in dental implant placement, along with the preparatory surgeries associated with the procedure. We have the advanced surgical tools, experience, and knowledge to execute simple and complex implant cases. Contact Dr. Allan Libunao or Dr. Richard Kim to learn more about dental implant placement at our Bolingbrook practice.

Dental Implants: Permanent Restorations

Dental implants are small, titanium posts that are surgically placed inside your jawbone. When your gum tissue and bone heal, they seal the implants into place, essentially making them a part of your anatomy. The implants can then be used as a secure foundation for a crown, bridge, or denture. We proudly offer implants made by some of the top names in restorative dentistry. These brands include Zimmer, Thommen, Nobel Biocare®, OCO Biomedical, and Straumann®.

Preparing for Implant Surgery

Before your implant surgery, Dr. Libunao or Dr. Kim will take panorex x-rays and other images to map out the precise placement of your implant posts. These images will help us determine if you need additional oral surgery, such as bone grafting or a sinus lift. If you have lost jawbone density, these procedures can enhance your bone structure so that you have a more stable base for your implant posts.

We are also proud to use SimPlant® software which is the world's first interactive 3D Implant Planning System for more accurate and predictable treatment planning of dental Implants. SimPlant®  is precise preoperative planning software that provides an increased level of confidence and an extra margin of safety for our patients. Real 3D planning allows us to find the ideal position of the implants, while taking into account both clinical and esthetical considerations.

The Implant Procedure

An older man with a complete and healthy smileBefore performing the implant surgery itself, Dr. Libunao or Dr. Kim will apply local anesthesia to your gums. We also offer nitrous oxide and intravenous (IV) sedation. If you are particularly apprehensive about your treatment, you may benefit from the use of these additional sedation techniques.

After the anesthesia and sedation has taken effect, Dr. Libunao or Dr. Kim will create tiny incisions in your gums. Through these incisions, we will place the implant posts inside your jawbone. The incisions are closed, and the patient is sent home to rest and recover.

The next stage of treatment is the osseointegration process. During the next three to six months, the jaw bone and connective tissue will grow around the implant, securely holding it in place.

After the osseointegration process is complete, the abutment pieces will be attached to the top of the implant posts. This procedure requires a small incision in the gums to access the dental implants. Once the gum tissue has healed, you can return to our office to have your new, custom-crafted restorations attach to the abutments.
